Indicators designed for
wide applicability across industry
Alfasensor’s indicators are used today to
detect potential humidity problems or to confirm that a moisture barrier is
providing proper protection. Humidity in buildings:
Humidity problems in buildings are generally due to changing seasons and
mainly affect unheated areas such as crawl spaces, attics, lofts and cold
storage rooms. Indicators that show when the relative humidity exceeds 75%
are used in spaces like these. This is the level at which bacteria, mould and
other micro-organisms start to thrive. Transport and storage: Alfasensor’s indicators are used to assure that
protective packaging and moisture barriers are providing full protection for
goods in transit and storage. Indicators that show a reading when the
relative humidity has exceeded a level of 60% are used wherever there is any
risk of corrosion. Indicators that react at 75% and 85% relative humidity
respectively are used when material that needs protecting from mould and
other micro-organisms is at risk of exposure, for example when being
transported in containers. Humidity indicators with
time display
There are many ways to
get an on-the-spot account of the relative atmospheric humidity. However,
there are fewer ways of easily measuring the relative humidity over a period
of time, i.e. how long something has been exposed to humidity above a certain
level. Alfasensor’s indicators, which are based on a
physical-chemical principle, show how long the relative humidity has exceeded
a predetermined level. The reading on the indicator is non-reversible. This
means that even if the relative humidity temporarily falls below the humidity
level, the maximum humidity reading remains unchanged. Alfasensor’s indicators have a robust design
that assures high reliability. The size of the indicator is slightly smaller
than that of a normal business card. The indicator’s humidity sensing
element is on a selfadhesive label, which makes it
simple to affix the indicator to any surface where you want to measure the
humidity conditions. The indicators are easy to read and understand, as the
length of the reading is proportional to the time that exposure to humidity
has exceeded the predetermined level. |
